An Over One Hundred Year History
The Land Union Group can look back on more than 100 years of history. It forms an essential part of the family holding, which was founded in 1894 as a small retail company based in Germany. Today, the family holding company, in addition to the Land Union Group, has a global workforce of more than 12,000 employees in various retail, food, casino, mining and marine businesses.
Modest Beginnings
In 1894, Heinrich Leffers moved from Amsterdam to Delmenhorst in Germany, which at that time was an up-and-coming city. There he established a revolutionary retail concept. Clothing was sold at much lower prices than the traditional tailors made. When signing the lease for his first deal, Leffers negotiated the purchase option for the building, which he bought two years later. The foundation for today's real estate portfolio has been laid! This was followed by various shops and real estate throughout Germany. When SinnLeffers was sold to the Quelle / Karstadt Group in 1989, it was the second largest department store chain store in Germany. Since then, the family holding company has continued to invest in a number of global companies. The Group's real estate activities are operated by Land Union and focus on 5 locations where family members are present.
