History
Land Union Group can look back to more than 100 years of history. It forms a substantial part of the family holding company which began in 1894 as a small retail business based in Germany. Today, the initial holding company has various stakes in diverse businesses in addition to Land Union.
In 1894, Heinrich Leffers moved from Amsterdam to Delmenhorst in Germany, which at the time was a developing city, and established a revolutionary retail concept. Clothing was sold ready-to-wear at substantially cheaper prices than the traditionally used tailors. Upon signing the rental contract for his first shop, Leffers was given the option to purchase the building, which he did, 2 years later. The foundation for today’s property portfolio was set! Various shops and properties followed. By the time the retail business of the group was sold to Quelle/Karstadt in 1989, Leffers was the second largest clothing department store chain in Germany.
Since then, the family’s holding company has moved on to Investment Management and Real Estate. The real estate activities of the group are pursued by Land Union and concentrated on 5 locations in which family members are present.
